Atherton Tablelands - Day Tour

The Atherton Tablelands features spectacular scenery, and is also an exceptional area for birdlife. On this tour we visit a range of habitats including old growth rainforest, open eucalypt woodland, grassland, wetlands, farmland, and volcanic crater lakes.

During the day we search for local endemics such as Bridled Honeyeater, Grey-headed Robin, Chowchilla, Bower’s Shrike-thrush, Pied Monarch, Victoria’s Riflebird, Tooth-billed Bowerbird, Australian Fernwren, and Golden Bowerbird.

We also hope to see a number of the specials found in the northern tropics, including  Southern Cassowary, Sarus Crane, Superb Fruit-Dove, Yellow-breasted Boatbill, Barred Cuckoo-shrike, and Spotted Catbird.

Early morning birding on the Southern Tablelands is followed by a visit to ancient high elevation rainforest in search of some of the rare understory skulkers.  In the middle of the day we view some wetlands, which seasonally hold great numbers of waterfowl.  Later there is a chance to experience the drier more open habitats of the Northern Tablelands.

Travel is in a comfortable air-conditioned 4WD vehicle.  Lunch and morning tea are included as well as reference material, bird lists and use of quality optical equipment.
A small group is guaranteed with a maximum of six guests.

Tour starts at approx 7 am and returns at approx 5 pm. Pick up from rainforest/birding lodges and accommodations across the Atherton Tablelands.
