Lord Howe is an island paradise famous for its seabirds and the endemic Woodhen. The island features spectacular scenery of exceptional beauty and the southern-most coral reef in the world.

On this 7 day tour we will explore the island and visit many seabird colonies. There will be boat trips around the island and to Balls Pyramid and the chance to climb Mt Gower.

The tour will be conducted at a relaxed pace with scheduled activities mainly in the mornings, leaving some afternoons free for other activities such as snorkelling, diving, photography or just relaxing.

Some of the key species that we hope to see include Providence Petrel, Kermadec Petrel, Black-winged Petrel, Wedge-tailed Shearwater, Flesh-footed Shearwater, Little Shearwater, White-bellied Storm-Petrel, Red-tailed Tropicbird, Masked Booby, Lord Howe Woodhen, Wandering Tattler, Sooty Tern, Common Noddy, Black Noddy, Grey Ternlet, and White Tern.

In addition there are a number of significant subspecies and local races of land birds which are of interest.

Day 1 — We will be greeted at the airport and transferred to our comfortable accommodation. There will be the chance to explore the local area and we may get our first glimpse of the endemic Lord Howe Woodhen.

Day 2 — This morning we can take a walk with a local naturalist to view seabirds and also learn more about the ecology of the island. Afternoon free.

Day 3 — Today we take a boat trip around the island. This will enable us to get a closer view of otherwise inaccessible seabird colonies.

Day 4 — There will be an opportunity to climb the spectacular Mt Gower which includes a chance to see Providence Petrel up close.

Day 5 — We take a boat trip to the incredible Balls Pyramid. Besides the amazing scenery there are many seabirds possible, including Kermadec Petrel and White-bellied Storm-Petrel.

Day 6 — This will be a relaxing day, we can ramble around the island soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying close encounters with the local birdlife.

Day 7 — There will be time for some last birding before we take our flight back to the mainland.

We stay six nights in comfortable lodge/motel style accommodation on a twin share basis. All meals and boat trips are included.
